CleverPet is amazing. I first started with the big Learning Resources recordable buttons from Amazon, and those ROUTINELY and QUICKLY broke, with no recourse for replacements. CleverPet's buttons are of a much better and nicer quality, fit into the hextiles with enough of an opening to allow the sound to "escape" better, and considering that I/our dog Harper is quickly surpassing her first 20-some button vocabulary, I am delighted that they are compact enough not to take up the entire kitchen! I think the sound quality is quite good, although sometimes I do get a little "extra" noise when I'm recording, but that's easy enough to remedy.
I did have one defective button in my 18-pack, and the staff was extremely attentive - as their products are still quite new, and they are constantly on the lookout to both troubleshoot any problems AND improve the product - and my replacement is already on its way!
I would ALSO like to address some of the negative reviews I've seen: This is a small, very quickly-GROWING operation, and I have consistently dealt with the same people during all of my correspondence, and I have seen the same people from the company on their zoom meetings, interviews, social media pages, etc., as they are trying to keep up with the technology AND all of the research that they are pulling in to learn about dogs'/animals' communication skills. I think they are doing a phenomenal job with research that is exploding and trying to keep up with all of the orders that are flying in... I hope people will keep this in mind and help give them the reviews and positivity they need, instead of shooting them down for minor issues like delays (yes, they can be long - I, too, have done my share of waiting, but they just haven't been able to keep up with production, yet!). They will get caught up on orders, but more importantly, they are an honest, legitimate, above-board operation that is working super-hard to build a great product and company. My kudos to them!
While my dogs are not having any issues with the concept, the buttons are poor quality, much too small which confuses the dog, and much too quiet to hear when youre pet is actually asking for something.
These also ship from Hong Kong, and they have a horrible return policy if you hate the product.
Get those nice big buttons for toddlers. Much better option than these buttons.

You may be thinking to yourself, "how could one company be so great to earn 5 stars from this guy?"
Well, I will tell you how.
Our dog Jimmy has not only learned how to tell me he is hungry or wants to play, but has also told me that I am a bit of dunce and should really start working on myself more. Some may say my wife put those commands on the buttons, some may say it is magic. We will never know.
I had a small issue with a button and the lovely customer service team helped me with it and assured me that, while I may have areas to improve, I should not listen to a 15lb dog on self improvement advice.
If you want to have a great experience from start to finish, go with this company.
Best product on the market for dogs! Highly recommended! Excellent customer service and an all around great product! No instructions needed. The buttons are the perfect size for my 5lb dog. They are light to press, the volume is loud enough to hear from a few feet away and sound quality is very clear! My pup was thrilled to get her new buttons! ????
My first set of buttons was lost in the post, but Clever pet was very helpful and sent me another one. Throughout the whole process they were very communicative and supportive! I will definitely buy from them again as soon as my learner needs more buttons.
I ordered my first set of buttons and they did take a long time to come (Shippageddon!!!) but once they arrived my dog took to them immediately and was using 11 on his first day. I found them very easy to use and of good quality and size. One button stopped working but I was able to fix it simply by taking the screws out and repositioning the button then replacing screws. My dog is so enthusiastic and loves communicating with the buttons. They fix pretty securely to the hex tiles. The odd word doesn’t record very clearly but if you experiment with the recording distance and volume of your voice it is possible to make it clearer.
I very quickly ordered a further 32 buttons and the wait was so much shorter - only a few weeks. As soon as these arrived I ordered a further 18 so I could have a duplicate sound board as I work away from home and it saves transportation. He loves using the buttons so much I wouldn’t want to be without them. One of my buttons didn’t work due to a faulty battery leaking and they immediately offered a replacement. Customer service was also extremely helpful with all my queries, replying to my emails almost immediately.
I am very impressed with all the help and support provided and am thrilled to be able to take part in the research.
I absolutely love this new company and its products. My husband and I are both educators and the research is sound - and it works!
The buttons are solid in construction (I've used similar, but less well-made buttons for years) and the hex mats are durable and easy to clean.
The buttons are easy to record, and like other buttons, you have to play with the tone and loudness of your voice to get it just right. The sound is dimmed slightly once the button is inserted in the hex mat, so you just compensate for that.
I did have one defective button (weird, mechanical sounds in the background) and the customer service was super fast, friendly, and shipped out a replacement asap.

To counteract all of these negative reviews, I want to share that I've had nothing but positive experiences when ordering from this company. When shipping was delayed due to reasons out of anyone's control, FluentPet employees were very quick to respond and answer any questions I had. The product works and looks as advertised. One "hextile" was missing from the kit I ordered, but the customer service team shipped one to me (at no charge) within 24 hours of bringing it to their attention.
Per the buttons themselves - it takes some experimenting to get the right distance from your mouth to the microphone in order to have the sound and volume you want. As you should expect, the mat muffles the sound slightly, so keep that in mind when recording. It's an easy "problem" to address.
Had I known the potential of receiving the buttons would take so long, I would have ordered the knock offs from Amazon. I ordered them with the intent to teach my pup how to let me know if he needs to go up or downstairs since we’re moving to a townhome from a ground floor apartment.. we’re in the process of moving and I ordered the buttons 5 weeks before our move date (figured it was ample amount of time before we vacated). It looks like one of the packages is lost in the abyss while the other package is supposed to arrive a day or two before our move. I already set up my mail forwarding address and start date but there have been times where USPS outsourced their deliveries to FedEx or UPS which would not know we moved and would deliver our items to the wrong address. Had I known it would take so long I would have told them to send them to the new address instead of an address I would no longer be residing at. I contacted customer service but all they can tell me is once it leaves the warehouse there’s nothing they can do.. (meanwhile it looks like only the label has been created and the products are sitting pretty still in their warehouse) so now I’m out $200 and most likely will not be able to retrieve my items... thanks for nothing

The quality and volume of the buttons is horrible. It's grainy and quiet, once it's in the mat and on the floor the only way you would hear it is if the whole house was quiet. The grainy background noise is even louder than the speaker's voice, which is annoying. I was expecting, for the price and the hype, either a. the audio is already on the buttons or b. the option to download an audio file onto the button, even a volume switch would have been helpful. When I provided feedback on this they simply said that their buttons were of the "best" quality. These buttons have the exact same audio quality as a novelty children's pen that records audio.
The sound quality is terrible with these buttons. No human could understand the recording when we recorded the word “Food”. We did not have any background noises and we spoke very loudly and clearly but the speakers and quality of recording is absolutely horrible. Less than 24 hrs after unboxing, one of the buttons stopped working completely and the other one was spotty. The buttons are significantly smaller than described. I contacted customer service for a return and they refused, only offering a complicated, long, and labor intensive warranty process.
I ordered the starter kit and expected to pay about $190 CDN ($140 for the product, $40 for shipping). I was already weary about the high shipping price, but was interested in the product, so I purchased anyway. I knew that there would be duties (the website estimated $5.77 USD when I selected my shipping method) but I did not expect to be charged $40 CDN by DHL (shipping company). That's as much as I paid Fluent Pet for shipping! Now I'm paying almost $90 just to get it to me! When I contacted the company about their dramatically incorrect estimate, they said it was my fault for not knowing I would be charged extra for HST and processing fees. The customer service person I was in contact with did nothing to resolve the problem and just said it wasn't their fault.
If you're planning on buying, expect to pay 60% more than your subtotal and do not expect helpful customer service. Might be better to try something similar on Amazon.
